Fashion Revolution Week 2017: What's On In Berlin


The countdown to Fashion Revolution Week has begun - the global movement which calls for better working conditions in the fashion industry and asks your favourite brands #whomademyclothes? With only a few days left to go, it's time to start planning what events to attend (if you haven't already), so if you're out and about in Berlin, read on for my round up of everything happening across the city.

MONDAY 24TH APRIL

12:00-19:00 | free | stoffrausch, Weidenweg 53, 10247
A closer look at the reality of supply chains, with the chance to make your own bag from leftover fabric during a free sewing course.

11:00-14:00 | free | Nelson Mandela School, Pfalzburger Straße 30, 10717
Interested in learning about where your clothes come from, how they're made and their impact on the environment? Head down to the Nelsen Mandela School to find out more, bring your old clothes and try some upcycling.

11:00-19:00 | free | Supermarché, Wiener Str. 16, 10999
Photos will be posted on social media and the Supermarché site to raise awareness of working conditions in the fashion industry. Participants receive a hand-printed "Who made my clothes?" bag.

A discussion of the theme “Money, Fashion, Power”, with exciting speakers including Dariadaria, ARMEDANGELS and Viertel \ Vor. Audience contributions welcome! Find tickets here, donations welcome. 

TUESDAY 25TH APRIL

Pop-up shop with local eco and upcycled fashion brands (Format, Kollateralschaden, SchmidtTakahashi, Aluc, Kroh, TingDing), limited organic fabric offers, plus a raffle with amazing prices (all profits donated to the INKOTA Netzwerk e.V.).

15:00-22:00 | free | Studio Hertzberg, Sonnenallee 174, 12059
Studio Hertzberg is open all week showcasing a range of individual and conscious designers, and there is also a special event on Tuesday where you can redesign or upcycle an item of your own, with drinks and music in the evening.

Tour around Lebenskleidung, part of Fair Fashion Camp (21st-25th April)

A tour around clothing store Lebenskleidung, which produces using GOTS-certified fabrics, including talks and networking. Find more details on the Fair Fashion Camp here.

“The Journey of an Ethical T-Shirt” with dna merch

Ethical and sustainable t-shirt brand dna merch present their business concept and a close look at their supply chain, including the independent cooperative in Croatia where their t-shirts are produced.

FRIDAY 28TH APRIL

Jyoti Pop-Up Store With Traditional Indian Block Printing
11:00-19:00 | free | Supermarché, Wiener Str. 16 Berlin 10999
German-Indian label Jyoti creates sustainable and ethical fashion in its own workshops in India, with a fully transparent supply chain. A special demonstration of traditional Indian block printing will take place at 1pm and 5pm.

VinoKino Vintage Kilo Sale
14:00-18:00 | day ticket €2.50 | Agora Rollberg, Rollbergstrasse 26, 12053 Berlin
Rummage through a selection of exclusive vintage pieces with a DJ set, street food, wine and cake. The price per kilo of clothing is €20 with a minimum charge of €5, blouses weighing ~150g are only €3 and Levi's jeans weighing ~700g cost €14.

Social Heroes' Stage With Baumhaus and Fashion Revolution
20:00-22:30 | free | Galerie ZeitZone, Adalbertstraße 79, 10997 Berlin
Scott Boulden from Baumhaus and Carina Bischof from Fashion Revolution discuss their social projects in Berlin between pieces of improvised theatre and audience engagement.

SATURDAY 29TH APRIL

RE:FASH:TIVAL

Finish up Fashion Revolution Week in style by celebrating the positive side of fashion, with highlights from live-acts Stanley Rubyn, Meral Al-Mer & Dope est Dope, a swap party with VinoKilo and an upcycling stage full of DIY inspiration including a Shibori fabric dying station, t-shirt printing and sewing desks.
